Einzelprojekte

The Corbridge Roman Stone Survey documents the architectural fragments excavated at Corbridge Roman Fort and Town. The Roman settlement Coria was one of the most important on the northern frontier for more than four centuries with extensive architectural remains preserved. Despite the importance of the architectural finds, there have been only preliminary, partially published studies that have never captured the breadth of the material. CRSS records the architectural fragments held by English Heritage both on-site at Corbridge and in Helmsley Archaeological Store. The pieces are recorded in a digital database to enable statistical, stylistic, and contextual analysis of the architecture, both individually and in structural groupings. It will be interlinked with the database of known structures and site GIS as well as the English Heritage Historic Object Management System. This project supports the reconstruction of Corbridge’s lost buildings and new interpretations of its long-term urban landscape.
