Pre- and Protohistoric Archaeology / Archaeological Research Center and Museum of Human Behavioral Evolution

Among the special features of the Institute of Classical Studies are the extensive collections of Classical Archaeology (original and cast collections) as well as those of Egyptology, Ancient Near Eastern Philology and Pre- and Protohistoric Archaeology. They include small ancient works of art such as ceramics, terracotta statuettes, bronzes, coins and a few stone works as well as a large number of original-sized plaster casts of famous works of Egyptian, Greek and Roman sculpture and copies of ancient Near Eastern written documents.

At the beginning of the 2013/14 winter semester, the Institute of Egyptology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies, the Institute of Classical Archaeology, the Department of Classical Philology and the Institute of Pre- and Early History merged and have formed the Institute of Ancient Studies (IAW) within Faculty 07: History and Cultural Studies at JGU since October 1, 2013.
