Although stays abroad are not compulsory during the program of study, they are strongly recommended. They offer the opportunity to get to know the modern cultures of the subject disciplines, to discover the European and international scientific landscape and to deepen foreign language skills. Whether it is a study visit, an internship or a language course, planning a stay abroad requires a lot of preparation and should therefore be approached at least a year in advance.
Before planning a stay abroad as part of your program of study, you should also contact the contact persons for stays abroad and JGU’s International Office in good time.
An Erasmus+ fellowship is an excellent opportunity, both organizationally and financially, to realize a stay abroad during the program of study. The different subject areas have concluded cooperation agreements with various partner universities.
For a successful application, it is important that you submit your application documents to the Erasmus subject coordinator in good time. The required documents include
- A letter of motivation (approx. 1 A4 page)
- An academic curriculum vitae
- A transcript of records
It is assumed that you have a B1 level command of the language of instruction at the partner university. In certain cases, proof of your language proficiency may be required.
Please send applications to the respective Erasmus+ subject coordinator.
The PONS project enables students at German universities to study at another higher education institution for one or two semesters. In contrast to the Erasmus program, this project is specifically designed for exchanges within Germany. Since its foundation in 2010 at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, the project has been continuously expanded. Currently, 13 archaeological and philological disciplines at 24 higher education institutions are involved. Exchange students not only have the opportunity to deepen their specialist knowledge, but also to make new contacts with lecturers, professors and other students.
In addition to the study place, each student also applies for a one-off fellowship of 500 euros. As a rule, students can continue to receive BAföG. Anyone interested in a stay at one of the partner universities should apply by January 15 for the summer semester and by June 15 for the winter semester. Before submitting the application, all interested students are strongly recommended to have a consultation with Dr. Roth to clarify, among other things, the creditability of the courses at the exchange university.
