In the major subject Ancient Near Eastern Philology (also known as Philology of the Ancient Near East, Ancient Near Eastern Studies or Assyriology), students learn Akkadian and, in the core subject, a second cuneiform language.

The major Near Eastern Archaeology includes the acquisition of basic knowledge of Akkadian in the core subject.
